Students are highly recommended by the AFA to “shadow” any of the programs before their audition. By shadowing, we mean that the student leaves his/ her home school and visits Governor Thomas Johnson High School (GTJHS) to spend the class time for that particular program observing the students and the class activities for blocks 1 and 2. This helps the students to determine if the program is truly one in which they are interested.
In order to visit the AFA, students have access to the CTC/ROTC shuttles that depart from each home high school in the morning. Students need to plan ahead and figure our the departure location and time of that shuttle. Students will ride these same shuttles back to their home high schools.
Students participating in the Middle School Shadow Day DO NOT have access to the CTC shuttles and must provide transportation TO and FROM TJHS).
Students are required to be at GTJHS by 8:00 am. Students are REQUIRED to turn in the signed parent permission form stating that the student is allowed to visit GTJHS

- Take a tour of all four AFA program areas.
- Sit in on at least one class in a specific focus area and participate in activities.
